Iris was born on May 17, 1926, in Rankin, Illinois, the daughter of Lewis and Alice A. (Watson) Davis. She married Earl Smith on February 8, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1986. She later married Irvin "Buck" Copenhaver on December 14, 1996, in Danville. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2008.
She is survived by two sons, John (Linda) Smith of Danville and Michael (Diana) Smith of Garland, Texas; one daughter, Lori (Jim) Keener of Rockford, Illinois; five grandchildren, Ryan (April) Smith, Jason (Meagan) Smith, Melissa (Greg) Colasinski, James "J.T." Keener and Joshua (Morgan) Keener; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, Christopher, Mitchell, Crystal, Reagan, Ethan, Jesse and Caleb and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Chad Smith; two sisters, Emily Lou Davis and Doris Marie Hofbauer and two brothers, Albert and Richard Davis.
Iris graduated from East Lynn High School and later Danville Beauty School. She worked for several years as a hairdresser. She was a member of Farmer's Chapel United Methodist Church. Iris enjoyed playing euchre, baking pies, cookies and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Burial will be in Potomac Cemetery.
