The daughter of Tobie Earl Sauter and Julia Mamie (Caddell) Sauter was born on November 2, 1926 in Selma, California. She was raised in Texas and lived in Miami, Florida from 1951 to 1994, when she moved to Harrison, Arkansas. While living in Miami, she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized at New Testament Baptist Church. She worked many years as a medical assistant and raised six children.
Doris enjoyed growing vegetables, herbs and spices in container gardens. She loved to travel and listen to country music. She especially loved being with her family. She was a remarkable cook, everyone loved her chicken and dumplings, hush puppies and fried chicken. Her kids all have recipes of hers to cherish and pass down to generations.
Doris always had positive thoughts and was an inspiration to all. She was ready to start each day, once she put on her eye brow pencil and Constantly Coral lipstick! She will always be remembered for her smile and glow like none other.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Vernon Geuea, James Byrd and Selvie Reid; son, James Byrd, Jr., daughter, Karla Gabriel, sister, Dolores Estes, brother, George Earl Sauter; and two sons-in-law, Jim Bishop and Dudley Kruhm.
Doris is survived by five children, Toby (Jackie) Byrd of Bowie, MD, Linda Bishop of Parthenon, AR, Julianne Kruhm of Harrison, AR, Clyda Byrd of Las Vegas, NV and Dolores Boudreau of Toccoa, GA; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Open Visitation will be Tuesday, October 19 from 8 AM to 5 PM at Coffman Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, October 20 at Maplewood Cemetery with Pastor Rob Davis officiating.
Family Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the graveside service at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
Although not required, it is the family's request that masks be worn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Sanctuary of Harrison or 3 Wishes for Ruby's Residents or the Jack Williams Veterans Resource Center (Camp Jack).
