1762: Owen first appears in Moore Co, NC records buying land in a part of Cumberland Co that became part of Moore Co in 1784. It is thought that Owen must have been at least 21 years of age at the time to make legal transactions. He may have been married at the time and could have been the father of children born as early as 1762. NOTE: The following entry may seem identical to the one cited for 1765, it is in a different deed book but describes the same land location. The difference is it was issued Oct. 28, 1765, but entered Oct. 19, 1762. One is cited as 705 and the one below that is 524. Otherwise, they are identical.

The story of Owen's murder as told in a newspaper article says that he was home on furlough during the Revolution when Tory soldiers began looting the area. He was carrying his newborn son when he went to the door and the Tories gunned them down with a single bullet.
