Richard Oscar DuBose
OCTOBER 10, 1940 – AUGUST 26, 2021

Richard Oscar DuBose (80) of Canton, Texas passed from this life on August 26, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on October 10, 1940, to Aaron and Christine (Hammond) DuBose. Richard was a devout Christian, loving husband and father, and enjoyed being PawPaw to all his grandchildren.

Richard spent the first part of his life in West Texas where he graduated from Abernathy High School. He began farming after graduation in Abernathy and then Petersburg, Texas. Richard served on the School Board and was Choir Director for Petersburg United Methodist Church. Richard and family moved back to Abernathy where Richard started Richard DuBose Insurance & Real Estate and a couple of other companies. Later in life, Richard moved to Canton, Texas. He became an independent crop adjuster and remained in that profession until his last days. While in Canton he met the delight of his life, Joan Higgins, whom he later married. They loved each other for 16 years before his passing. Richard and Joan attended Victory Church in Canton.

Richard enjoyed fishing, music and singing, and was an avid woodworker. He was also known to tell a great story or two. He enjoyed sharing all these things with his grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife, Joan; children Kim Mansion (Hans) of Plano, Kellye Guarisco (Sam) of Prosper, Bill DuBose (Jara) of Abernathy, Angela Summerford of Canton; and daughter-in-law, Liz Morris of Carrollton; sister Dianne Blythe of Kemp; Grandchildren: Brock Mansion, Carson Mansion, Cole Guarisco, Natalie Guarisco, Kalli DuBose, Khaki DuBose, and Kodi DuBose, Josh Morris, Sky Morris (Jean), Nancy Summerford, Sarah Summerford (Eric Adcock), and Ben Summerford; Great-Grandchildren: Kaylee, Alice, Aiden, Evie and Max.

Richard is preceded in death by: His parents, brother-in-law Jim Blythe, son-in-law Dale Summerford, and followed in death by son-in-law Jeff Morris.
