Obituary
Rebecca Mitchell Mathis was born April 20, 1915 to Nalia and David Mitchell in Dillon, Sc. The family moved to Trenton, NJ when she was 5 years old, and she later graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1935.

Rebecca developed a strong religious foundation after being baptized at Union Baptist Church at the age of 12.

She eventually married Edward Bivens and bore 8 children; Arabia, Ruth, Evelyn, Edward, James, Curtis, Melvin and Isaac.

The family moved to Beverly, NJ where Rebecca joined Macedonia Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Choir, Sunday School and Usher Board. She also served as the Choir's President and superintendent of Sunday school for many years.

Rebecca was an old school housewife caring for the children, cooking and cleaning. Following the death of her husband in 1983, Rebecca moved back to Trenton and later married Raymond Mathis who passed away in 1990.

Rebecca lived out the rest of her years dedicated to God, church and family. She stayed active serving as a member of XYZ, feeding the homeless, Sunday school, bible study and reading senior center.

She passed away at home, on October 2, 2021 at the age of 106.

She was predeceased by two husbands Edward Bivens and Raymond Mathis; one daughter Arabia Corbin, five sons, two sisters, two brothers and two great-grandchildren.

Rebecca's memory will be cherished and forever remembered by her daughters Ruth McCoy, Evelyn Black; eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren; a host of great-great, great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

I dare not ask for more My Lord! I've been blessed and feel I've done my
chores. I cherished each day of my life, for I knew not when it would end.

As I traveled along I've made plenty of friends.

There's no friend like Jesus, no house like God's house.

Keep praying my friends: and one day you're sure to join me.
Do not weep! Do not cry! Do not mourn for me. I'm all right.

We meet again Let's pray.

But now I bid you farewell.

Funeral service will be 1pm Friday, October 8, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service. Interment will be 10am Monday October 11, 2021 at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
