Photo Caption: Studio portrait of a soldier identified as Roy Hilary Gordan. This is probably 51796 Private (Pte) Roy Hilary Gorham. A labourer from Cowangie, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Gorham had originally enlisted on 26 April 1917 but following training at Seymour and Langwarrin, it was discovered that he was underage and was discharged. Following his re-enlistment he embarked with the 1st (SA) Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Euripides on 1 May 1918. Later serving in France with the 50th Battalion he returned to Australia on 12 July 1919. Following his discharge he enlisted in the RAN and served as a stoker until 27 January 1941. He subsequently enlisted in the 2nd AIF and served as a Lance Sergeant at the Royal Australian Engineers Training Centre.
