Stanley E. Thomas Jr., 73, of Ottumwa, died September 1, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
He was born October 10, 1947 in Fairfield to Stanley and Gertrude Perry Thomas. Stanley married Ella on February 25, 1968 and they just celebrated 53 years.
A Vietnam veteran, Stanley enjoyed working with his hands and everything mechanical. He loved old cars and tried to save all of them. If they were broken, he would fix them. He loved driving his semi and seeing the country, reuniting with fellow buddies.
Stanley was a generous and kind man who would help anyone who was in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving is his wife, Ella; daughters, Robin (Alex) Goldbach of Germany and Shawna (Scott) VanEngelenhoven and his 3 boys of Ottumwa; grandchildren, David and Sidney Goldbach; siblings, Betty (Wesley) Thompson of O'Neal, NE, Rowena (Jack) Buckley of Harrison, NE, Nancy (Joseph) Wadsworth of Evergreen, CO, and Raymond (Jill) Thomas of Moberly, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leonard Thomas.
His body has been cremated.
A time to celebrate his life will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 23rd at Reece Funeral Home.
Private graveside services and military honors will be held at Fiedler Cemetery. He will be joined in heaven by his favorite granddog.
Memorials may be made to O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion Firing Squad.
