He was born February 2, 1963 to Herbert E. and Kathryn Pickens Wade Sr. On August 6, 2004 he married Mary Alice Leasure Wade, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dustin (Cassie) Detillion, of Chillicothe; two daughters, Gina (Michael) Humphrey, of West Portsmouth and Melanie "Mel" Hill, of Hillsboro; his grandchildren, Kyerstin (Ian) Harrington, Kelsy Glenn, Camron and Naomi Detillion, Landon and Maya Humphrey, Hayden and Harper Trainer, and Evelyn "Evie" Hill; great-granddaughter, Elena Harrington; brothers, Bill (Rita) Wade, of Chillicothe, Jimmy (Sue) Wade, of Kingston; a sister-in-law, Connie Wade, of Massieville; nephews, Mike and Jeff Bruce, Dustin, Danny, and Jared Wade; niece Nichole Allen; a brother-in-law, Glen "Hoss" (Denise) Leasure, all of Chillicothe; four sisters-in-law, Tina (Jake) Rooker, Angela (Tony) Eveland, Flora (Ted) Mitchell, all of Chillicothe, Lynn (Audie) Schuyler, of Bidwell; a favorite aunt, Iola "Ettie" Bevins; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jerry also had special friends Terry and Billie Jo Spradlin and Susie Walls, whom he loved dearly and had many plans with. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Herbie, and nephew Zachary Stepp.
Jerry worked at the US Shoe Factory of Chillicothe and Greenfield, and retired from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. He met his longtime friend at US Shoe and the both went to SOCF to work, and rode together for over twenty years. They were more like ornery brothers. So, thank you David and wife Pam Proehl, he loved you like family.
To all that help him at the Adena Regional Medical Center and the Adena Cancer Center, thank you! His doctor, Jami L. Easterday, his lung doctor, Rajinish Jesudoss, his cancer doctors, Ganapathy Krishnan, Douglas Smith Jr., William Wilson, and nurses Ray and Jennifer. To the ER doctor and nurses and the entire staff, you all had a special place in his heart.
It would be wrong to say Jerry lost his battle with cancer, because he never stopped fighting. Jerry was a light to all those who knew him. He had a smile that was contagious, and his family was everything. It was his time to go, when his Lord and Savior called him home. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 pm Thursday at Haller's.
