Johanna Robinson Rites Held Here December 28
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, December 28, from the Larson Funeral home for Mrs. Johanna Robinson, who passed away Saturday, December 26, at the Schaller hospital, Rev. V. C. Grant officiated.
June Samelson and Lois Wagner sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Loverne Erickson.
Pall bearers were Raymond Ellrich, George Allee, Emery Wilson, Dick Witter, Walt Nelson, and Merle Hines. Burial was in the Newell cemetery.
Mrs. Ora Rowen and Mrs. Alma Nelson had charge of the flowers.
Johanna Christina Rothe, daughter of William and Christina Rother was born January 11, 1867 at Mineral Point, Wis. Here she received her education as a school teacher. In 1887 she came to Newell to teach in the district school south of town.
On December 27, 1889 she was united in marriage at Mineral Point, Wis., to Clinton J. Robinson of Newell, Iowa.
During her early life in Newell she was active in social and church affairs. Her church interests were in music, Sunday school and the Ladies Aid.
In 1920 they moved to the East and located near her husband's childhood home, living in Phoenix and Syracuse, New York. They returned to Newell in 1949 and spent their remaining years here.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 4, 1943. She was the last surviving member of her family of eight children.
After surgery and serious illness the end came on Saturday, December 26, 1953.
To her were born four children: Edna L. (Mrs. F. W. Witter) of Newell, Donald C. of Fulton, N.Y., and two who died in infancy.
Besides the two children there survive five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Robinson, James, Marion and David of Fulton, New York, Mrs. L. A. Douglass and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Corderman, all of Storm Lake.
