Marilyn J. Charette died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. She slipped away on Saturday, January 9th, 2021 after a brave battle with cancer. She shared 87 years of unconditional love with family and friends. She will be missed, but not forgotten.
Born and raised in Parsippany-Troy Hills to the late Herman and Ada Mae Nauta, she was one of four daughters to bless their household. After graduating Boonton High School in 1951, she held various jobs which included telephone operator, sales associate for Lobel's Children clothing, (had the best dressed grandchildren in town) as well as a homemaker. She married Thomas Charette in 1952.
They began a family in Boonton prior to moving to the Lake Arrowhead section of Denville, NJ where they have remained ever since. She excelled at being a homemaker, gardener, and grandmother. She tinkered in her flower gardens, changing them with every season. She possessed a creativeness that she always downplayed. She was an active and playful grandma who loved to get down on the floor and interact with her grandchildren. Despite all her ailments she would perk up when great grandkids came to visit, even kicking a soccer ball when she was in her eighties. Every Thursday, Marilyn and her girlfriends religiously went to Delizia Pizza Kitchen in Boonton to celebrate their friendship. Friends described her as kind and gentle with a witty sense of humor. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is out of pain, reunited with her parents and her sisters Louise, Edith and Dorothy.
Marilyn will be remembered by her beloved husband of 69 years, Tom; her loving children, Richard (Jennifer Della Calce) Charette and Jackie (Bob) Carey; her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Charette, Kristen (Chris) Barrasso, Ryan Carey, and Michael (Stephanie) Carey; her treasured great-grandchildren, Alice and Aubrey Barrasso and Tessa and Owen Carey; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate both Tom and Marilyn Charette's lives will be held on Monday, September 13th at 10am at the St. Catherine of Siena Church, 10 N. Pocono Road, Mt. Lakes, NJ. Internment immediately following at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
