Peggy Jo Rogers Jones was born in Murray, KY and grew up in central Kentucky where she developed a love for music. She graduated from Murray State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and accepted a teaching position in Stuart, FL where she met her late husband, George D. (Buddy) Hayes. After marriage they moved to Cobb County, Georgia where she taught Kindergarten and First Grade and later served in multiple PTA and Band Booster leadership positions.
Peggy was a church musician and as a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church where she played the piano and organ, directed the children's choir, and sang in the adult choir. She and her husband also operated Rocking Horse Antiques for over 10 years in Macland, GA. Peggy was a proud citizen of the USA, was elevated to The Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels and found great joy in gardening, but her greatest joys were her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons Keith Rogers Hayes of Canton, GA and his wife Pam, and Ashton Lee Hayes of Fredericksburg, VA and his wife Rebecca; grandsons Marc Hayes and his wife Emily of Marietta, GA, Todd Hayes of Belgrade, MT, William Hayes of Richmond, VA, and Zachary Hayes of Fredericksburg, VA; great-grandson Beckett Thomas Hayes of Marietta, GA; sister Betty Gardner of Paducah, KY, and nephew Mike Gardner and his wife Danna of Paducah, KY.
