British Statesman. He served as both Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (2016-2018) and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (2018-2019) under Prime Minister Theresa May. He studied law at the University of Exeter and later went to work at a large international law firm. In 2005, he entered politics by winning a parliamentary seat for the Hornchurch constituency. After his constituency was abolished in 2010 and he successfully ran for the Old Bexley and Sidcup seat that year. He went on to serve in minor cabinet posts before become the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in 2016. He remained in this post until 2018, when he was moved over to the post of Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government. He went on to serve in this post for a year before resigning this office. In 2020, he was named Minister for Security by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In early 2021, he went in for cancer surgery and had to resign his ministerial post in April of that year due to health complications. He passed away in October of 2021 after losing his battle with cancer.
