Pakistani Statesman. He served as both the President (1991-1996) and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (1985-1990, 2001-2006) during a period of three decades. He studied at Gordon College (Rawalpindi) before. going on to the University Law College in Lahore to obtain a law degree in 1958. After he became a member of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, he ran for a position on a local council, where he served eight years. He went on to serve in several government positions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir before being elected prime minister in 1985. He served in this capacity for five years before becoming a part of the opposition in 1990. In 1991, he was elected president and went on to serve for a five-year term. Later, he served another term as prime minister from 2001 to 2006. Later, he introduced the Pakistan Muslim League to the region, but left the League in early 2021. He rejoined the Muslim Conference after leaving the League. He passed away due to Covid-19 complications.
