Randall "Randy" Joseph Lester, 44, of Winlock died May 23, 2018. Randy was born March 3, 1974, in Olympia. He grew up in Onalaska- where he excelled at football, baseball, basketball and sarcasm-and he graduated from Onalaska High School in 1992. Six years after graduating, Randy fell in love with another Onalaska grad: Rachel (Rogers) Lester. They married in 2005 and bought their dream house in Winlock a few years later. Randy took great pride in his home – especially the yard – and he transformed his property into a park-like retreat for his wife and their two boys, Hayden, age 17, and Hunter, 15. Randy lived for his sons' ball games, and he treasured every opportunity to cheer them on. When he wasn't at the ball fields, Randy was at the golf course or in the kitchen. He was a food magician who whipped up multi-course meals for all the major holidays. His baking was blue-ribbon worthy, too. Randy also was the go-to guy for smoking meats (the spicier the better!) and canning vegetables, which he grew in his own meticulous garden. Randy made dickering a competitive sport, especially when it involved some poor, unsuspecting cable company service rep standing in the way of a better deal. His sometimes-salty language could make a sailor blush, but he was a softie who mourned the loss of his beloved dog, Buddy, for years before recently surprising his family with a new puppy. Randy loved hunting (for deer as well as deals), and he especially enjoyed hanging out with friends – except when they were winning at Texas hold 'em. He relished his buddies' annual LC Olympics, and he pretty much turned meal prep into The Most Important Competition of the weekend event. Smack-talk was his favorite ingredient. Randy began working for the Chehalis branch of Bradken, a global foundry and metal casting business, in 2011. He moved to the foundry's Tacoma facility in 2014 and won his coworkers over with fantasy football pools, homemade salsa and stories about his family. Though rock was his music of choice, Randy filled his long commutes with books on tape, podcasts and comedy shows. And he had plenty of airtime to fill because he preferred taking the back roads and driving in the slower-than-slow lane. In addition to his wife and sons, Randy is survived by his mother, Donna (Pentecost) Lester of Centralia; his sister, Heidi Howard of Cinebar (and her husband, Mike); a brother-in-law, Coleman Rogers of Longview; eight sisters-in-law, Caitlin Rogers of Olympia; Paula Mickelsen of Chinook, Wash.; Stephanie ("Niki") Stedham of Olympia; Rieva Lester of Winlock; Ashleigh Bamford of Pooler, Ga.; Brittany Bamford of Centralia; Peighton Royster of Onalaska; and Destin Martini of Rochester; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a circle of cherished friends and extended family. Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Lester, in 2007, and his father, Curtis Lester Jr., in 2017. A celebration of Randy's life will be held at 11 a.m. June 15 at Onalaska High School, with Pastor Wayne Nelson officiating. A potluck will immediately follow at the elementary school (across the street). The family will lay Randy to rest in a private ceremony later in the day. Services are under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock (www.cattermolefh.com). Memorial contributions to assist Randy's family during this difficult time can be made online at https://www.gofundme.com/randylester or in person at any TwinStar Credit Union location.
