Andrew Barnard Harper, 61, of Estill, South Carolina, died Saturday, August 19. His beloved wife, Cindy, was at his side. Born on March 13, 1956, to the late Stiles and Virginia Harper, Andrew was a lifelong resident of Estill, a town that he loved. He attended Patrick Henry Academy and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a business degree. A self-described "timber farmer," he was a member of Estill Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. Andrew was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Although he traveled extensively to hunt, he most loved walking with his dog, Harry, in the woods and swamp on his property along the Savannah River. That was his sacred place. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of nature and wildlife, words, history, and any other topic in which he took an interest. What defined Andrew most was his love of people. Outgoing and warm, he took a genuine interest in the lives of everyone whose path he crossed. His life was shaped by his friends and completed by his family. His kindness was infectious. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Ann Harper; brothers, Stiles Mikell Harper, Jr. and Thomas Lawton Harper, Sr. and his wife, Lois Pendarvis Harper; children, Virginia Harper Breen and her husband, Sean Preston Breen, and Stiles Mikell Harper III and his fiancee, Jenna Blair Adkinson; granddaughter, Anna Preston Breen; cherished stepchildren, Tyler and Shannon St. John; and his lifelong friend and colleague, Charlie Johnson, Sr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Estill Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 306, Estill, SC 29918 or the Town of Estill Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 415, Estill, SC 29918. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors afterwards at 775 Baker Boulevard, Estill. Published by Savannah Morning News on Aug. 24, 2017.
