LaVerne was born March 30, 1937 in Harmony, TX to Vera Susie (Dean) Coplen and Elvin Lorenzo Coplen. LaVerne married Melvin Ray Hill on May 7, 1955 in Waxahachie, TX. They farmed in Haskell County TX for 48 years and raised 6 children. They were charter members of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church where LaVerne sang in the choir and worked in Vacation Bible School. She was a loving wife and mother who led her children to follow and live for the Lord. This is exemplified by the fact that two sons and two grandsons currently serve in vocational Christian ministry.
Her grandchildren remember her as a warm and loving grandmother, who cooked their favorite meals and attended their concerts and special events. She always had an open door and a loving heart for them when they were n need. She was in her element during holidays when surrounded by her family.
She is survived by three sons; David Hill and wife Linda of Midland, TX, Andy Hill and wife Lori of Gardendale, TX, Chris Hill of Abilene, TX and three daughters; Brenda Edins of North Richland Hills, TX, Vicky Scott and husband Matthew of Frisco, TX, Donna Searcy and husband Kerald of Gould, OK, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, one brother, Archie Coplen of Colorado Springs, CO, and 2 sisters, Kathy Justice and Virginia Patterson of Arlington, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents Elvin iand Vera Coplen, one brother, Elvin Coplen Jr., and 5 sisters, Vera Hill, Nellie Davis, Lillie Leal, Sharon Baldwin, and Diana Coplen.
