Spouse - Myra Ann MilerWaynesville, Samuel Everett Teague, Jr., 94, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his residence in Waynesville, North Carolina.

He was born in Apalachicola, Florida on November 21, 1922 and is the son of Samuel E. Teague Sr. and Mabel Fowler Teague. Mr. Teague moved to Waynesville when he retired in 1985. For many years, he was a summer resident but began to reside there full time in 2011.

Mr. Teague was active in the banking business for 35 years in Tallahassee, Florida serving as President of Leon Federal Savings and Loan Association (Sun Federal). He also served as Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and on the board of several other financial institutions.

During the Second World War, Mr. Teague fought with the 1st Marine Division on the islands of Guam, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. When the war ended, he served with the 1st Marine Division in the occupation of North China.

Mr. Teague was politically active, serving as Mayor of the City of Tallahassee and as a Florida State Senator. He was a Scout Master, taking the North Florida Scout Troops to the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Senior Patrol leader for the group was Sandy De Alembert who later became President of Florida State University.

Mr. Teague wrote the program for the Ten Brave Christion Movement and gave it to the Methodist Church. This program changed many lives worldwide. One of the participants, a pastor from Korea, gave Mr. Teague a gift of a handmade cane inlaid with mother-of-pearl and a traditional swager stick to show how deeply the program touched him.

With all of these accomplishments, Sam Teague's greatest joy was his long term marriage to the love of his life, Myra and their five children. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his friends and family.

Sam is survived by his wife of 72 years, Myra Miller Teague and his four living children: Deppie Whitwam (Jack), Tampa, Florida, Elizabeth (Betsy) Teague Glover (Rick), Wilmington, North Carolina; Fowler Teague Wujcik (Tracy), Tallahassee, Florida and Samuel E. Teague, III (Donna), Greenville, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. One daughter, Myra Teague Sink, of Raleigh, passed away on December 18, 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina with Reverend Dr. Charles W. "Chuck" Wilson and Reverend Jim Sink officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
