Mrs. Nan Wilder Williams, 91, of Old Wax Road, passed away at her residence Monday, Nov. 12, 2007. Mrs. Williams was born in Cedar Bluff, Ala., on May 29, 1916, the youngest daughter of the late Joseph T. Wilder and Lucye Sheely Wilder. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Herman M. Williams; three sisters, Mary Daniel, Dixie Wilder and Faye Boggs; three brothers, Joe Wilder, Frank Wilder and Jack Wilder; and a grandson, Richard Thomas Williams. Survivors include her brother, Ed Wilder of Anderson, S.C.; two sons, Tommy J. Williams and his wife Ann Williams and Frank M. Williams and his wife Susan K. Williams of Helen, and five grandchildren, two of Social Circle, Ga., one of Madison, Ga, and two of Huntsville, Al; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Aragon United Methodist Church for almost 70 years. She served as Sunday School superintendent, chairman of council and board, president of the United Methodist Women, lay member of the North Georgia Annual Conference, and was currently teaching the adult Sunday School class. She was nominated as State Mother of the Year in 1984, was a member of the National Education Association, delegate from Georgia for two national conventions, a member of the G.A.E. and served as director of the Seventh District Department of classroom teachers. She is a life member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association and has served two terms as president of the Polk County Retired Teachers Assocation. She served as assistant director of Area XI of GRTA, which includes 17 counties of North Georgia. Mrs. Williams is a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Psi State and Psi Chapter president. Services for Mrs. Williams were conducted at 11 a.m. on Nov. 15 at Aragon United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Williams and Rev. Don Spears officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of Aragon Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were Jim Boggs, Eddie Wilder, Sheeley Wilder, Doug Poole, Ronnie Williams, Jason Wilder, Ed Brumbelow and John Purser. Members of the Polk County Retired Teachers Assocation served as honorary pallbearers. Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements.
