Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Roosevelt Stake House, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for J. Birchell (Buck) Stewart, 56, who died in a Dragerton hospital February 21 at 7:20 p.m. following an operation. Bishop Alva C. Snow of the Roosevelt Third ward conducted the services.
Mr. Stewart was born May 25, 1901 in Ft. Duchesne, a son of George E. and Elizabeth Birchell Stewart. He married Mary Coreilla Shaffer Dec. 29, 1929 at Duchesne. A member of the LDS church he had been active in the Sunnyside ward where his family lived for the past nine years. He was employed by the Kaiser Steel Company.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his widow, a son Jay B. Jr., Logan; a daughter Marilyn, Salt Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Ted Thomas and Mrs. Wallace Dennis of Myton, and a brother George E., Roosevelt, and two grandchildren.
Paul Murphy, member of the Roosevelt stake presidency, was the speaker, and a quartet composed of Dwain Buchanan, Cliff Drollinger, Cliff Memmot and Garrett Stone sang two numbers, "In The Garden," and "I Need Thee Every Hour." Prayer as the mortuary was offered by Reed Birchell; invocation by Mr. Drollinger; the benediction by Howard Andrews; and the grave was dedicated by Woodrow Nielson.
Burial was in the Roosevelt Cemetery under the direction of the Olpin Mortuary of Roosevelt.
