TOWNSEND, MRS. MARTHA E. (PRINCIPE), age 77, of Bristol, died Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence following a long illness. She was the wife of Harley 'Irish' Townsend, her husband of 54 years.

Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Ludovico and Annie (Castigliego) Principe. A Homemaker for most of her life, she worked at the former Bristol Manufacturing Company on the 'Victory Shift' during WWII to help the war effort and for a number of years following. Mrs. Townsend was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, she attended Bristol Schools, loved dancing in her younger days, a lifelong pet owner and lover of all animals. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bristol Train of Artillery.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Georgette Dudley of Cambridge, MD and Warren, RI and Shirley Townsend Dolan of Bristol, two grandchildren Marc Dudley of Miami, FL and Nicki Dudley of Cambridge, MD and Warren, an Aunt, Mary Primiano of Warren, and an Uncle Charles Castigliego of North Providence, three nieces, a nephew, many cousins and her beloved golden retriever, Kelly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Giacomo 'Jack' Principe and two sons-in-law, Robert L. Dudley, Jr. and Thomas J. Dolan, Jr.
