ALEXIS - LeRoy H. Arp, 90, rural Alexis, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2007) at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
He was born Jan. 31, 1917, at West Ely, Mo., the son of Otto H. and Ella (Mahsmann) Arp. He was reared and educated in West Ely Lutheran Schools.

LeRoy married Mary Lucille Happel on Aug. 31, 1937 at West Ely, Missouri, and she survives.

He farmed in Mercer County most of his adult life. In his early years, he was employed at Douglas Aircraft in Los Angles and Chicago. He also had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and had done tunnel work in the state of Washington. He loved traveling and farming. He also enjoyed antique cars and tractors.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of North Henderson, and Mercer County Farm Bureau where he had received the Conservation Farmer of the Year award in 1973. He was a member of the Western Illinois Antique Car Club.

His family includes his wife, Mary Lucille of Alexis; three daughters, Barbara (Ted) Lafferty of Alexis, Beverly (Mike) Norton of Galesburg, and Brenda (Stan) Gregory of Alexis; seven grandchildren, Mark (Luona) Lafferty of Des Moines, Iowa, Andrea (Mo) Heshmati of Parker, Colo., Valerie (Dan) Faubion of Phoenix, Ariz., Bryan (Carrie) Osborn of Monmouth, Kristina (Grant) Eaton of Atlanta, Ga., Steve (Dana) Gregory of Alexis, and Jeff (Heather) Gregory of Alexis; 14 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Donelson of Palmyra, Mo.; along with nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Zion Lutheran Church, North Henderson, with Rev. Kurt Carlsen. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel where his family will be present from 5 until 7 p.m. Memorials may be left for Zion Lutheran Church or Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance Fund.
