Paul O. Thompson, age 93, of Waconia passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at his residence.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Johnson Funeral Home (141 East 1st St) in Waconia with Rev. Jon Tolly as officiant. Visitation held 1 hour prior to service. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Paul Owen Thompson was born June 7, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Raymond and Ida (Thorson) Thompson. He graduated from South High School in Minneapolis. On February 7, 1948 Paul was united in marriage to Delores (Roholt) Thompson.
Paul grew up in Minneapolis. Upon graduation from high school, Paul joined the Army Air Corp and then joined the Air Force. After leaving military service, Paul joined the Minneapolis Police Department, 3rd Precinct, where he remained for 20 years. He treasured his time in service to both his country and community. After retiring, Paul and Delores moved to Arizona, where they remained for 20 years before returning to Minnesota.
In his free time, Paul enjoyed reading and loved cars. He highly valued his Norwegian heritage and was obsessed with all things from Norway. Paul was honest and fair and greatly cherished his family. Time spent with them, especially his grandchildren, brought him immense joy.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Ida Thompson; wife Delores; daughter Candice Williams; grandchild Skye Barke; sister Junice (Jack) Topeff.
Paul is survived by his loving family: daughter Nancy (Mike) Buchert of Waconia; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; other loving relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers are Colton Doering, Tim Williams, Bennett Williams, Richard Cota, Micah Buchert-Steinmeyer, and Cody Jockisch-Buchert.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society.
