"BerulMari" (as frontier Pastor Duus referred to them) left Telemark in 1853. Mari was widowed in 1858. This editor was unable to find her on the 1860 census, but she does appear as Mary Oleson on the 1870 Census of Iola village. By then, Knut was 19 and was helping to support her and sister Sara with farm labor. She may also have been helping out at her son-in-law's saloon. By 1880, the kids had married and she was living by herself in Iola. By 1900, she had moved in with her son Ole Berulson in the nearby Town of Alban, Portage Co., WI to finish out her days having seen out a pretty amazing century.
