Johnny Ferrell Nelson child of John Frank & Lois Ida Wheeler Nelson. Johnny married Barabara Jean Brown. They had 4 known children: Diane Elizabeth, Dennis Stephen, Donna Jean and Daniel John Nelson.
Johnny Ferrell Nelson, 82, of Woodstock passed away March 30, 2013. Funeral services were held at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nelson was born in Ball Ground, GA, and loved Cherokee County. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Korean War where he was highly decorated, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Johnny was a very dedicated law enforcement officer serving with the Dade County, Florida Sheriff's Office from 1956 to 1963 and also the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement he continued to serve as a Bailiff with the Cherokee County Courts.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 46 years Barbara, who passed away in 2000 and daughter, Donna, who passed away in 2007. Survivors include sons Dennis Nelson of Canton and Daniel Nelson of Atlanta; daughter Diane "Didi" Nelson of Smyrna and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
