GLOUCESTER, Va. — Elsie Alice Trent Young Bright passed away peacefully on September 17, 2021, at Sanders Assisted Living in Gloucester, Va., where she had resided for the past 12 years. She was 109 years old.

Elsie was born January 5, 1912, in Montgomery County Ohio. She grew up on a farm near Stelvideo, Ohio, while attending a one-room school. She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. She married and reared three children in Ohio before moving with her family to Winston-Salem, N. Carolina, where she lived for 45 years. She led an active life, singing in church choirs, serving as voter registrar in Ohio and North Carolina, and managing doctors' offices while engaging in a variety of craft activities, including several kinds of needle work, decorative ornaments, pine needle weaving, and painting. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She is a long time member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren.

Mrs. Bright was preceded in death by all her birth family, including her parents, Luther and Rhoda Trent; four sisters and three brothers; as well as all of her adoptive family, parents, Isaac and Almira Young; and six brothers. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, C. Emmert Bright; and her oldest son, Allen L. Bright. She is survived by son, Norman Bright (Betty) of Brentwood Tenn.; daughter, Sandra Brewer (Bill), of Hayes, Va.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in the Greenville area, and around the country.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 29, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., in the Abbottsville Cemetery.
