King George County, Va., DOUBLE MURDER.—The Investigation at Comorn to ascertain who murdered Remus and Chas. Dodd, on Saturday, the 18th instant, in Machodoc creek, King George county, Va., resulted in the arrest of four boys, on strong circumstantial evidence, who were lodged in the county jail.
Before the prisoners reached the Jail Rufus Greer, a mulatto, aged about eleven years, made a confession, which revealed the following facts: That the two Dodd boys were at a spring on the creek, when Greer, in company with John Atwill, colored, Willie McKennie, white, and Hiram Pestridge, colored, went down the creek In a boat to the spring to get some water. When the boat neared the spring, a dog owned by the Dodds barked at the boys in the boat, when McKennie struck the dog, which resulted in a quarrel.
They got out of the boat, caught the smaller Dodd and in an attempt to "duck" the little fellow, drowned him outright, and in order to conceal the crime the other boy, Remus Dodd, was murdered and cast into the creek. Rufus Greer, in this confession, does not implicate himself in the merciless deed, but, all things considered, it is probable that he, too, is a party to the crime.—Alexandria Gazette.
