Dorothy (Dottie) Lavena Snyder Black passed away on September 29th 2021 at age 97 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband William Earl Black in 1989. They were married in 1947 and were residents of Vestal, NY until their move to Huntsville, AL in 1964. Dorothy was born in Williamsport, PA, the first daughter of Alfred George Snyder and Edna May Spotts Snyder. She graduated from Johnson City (NY) High School and worked for IBM until she married. Dorothy was a devoted mother and homemaker. Her friends and family will remember her for her delicious cheese straws, homemade toffee/chocolate candy and various needlework creations and drawings. She enjoyed presiding over her kitchen and hosting family gatherings, especially during Christmas. She loved to laugh, bowl with her friends and lunch with the "girls". She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Black Jean (Mack) and her sister Arlene Spotts Strom. She is survived by two daughters , three grandsons, two granddaughters and 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Oct.16, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Service will be Oct.16, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville, AL.
