Born October 9, 1934 at Sherrill, he was a son of the late Thomas Beauclaire Motes and Fannie Belle Osborne Motes.
He graduated from Altheimer High School in 1954 and attended Henderson State University.
He also served in the United States Army for two years.
Mr. Motes was an engineer for the Cotton Belt Railroad for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Tommy Lee Motes, Jr. and Michael Scott Motes; a great-grandson, Jesse Lee Goodman; a sister, Elizabeth Motes Altschul; a brother, Sam D. Motes; and a nephew, John Thomas Motes.
Survivors include his granddaughter, Ashton Motes Goodman; a great-grandson, Sawyer Layne Goodman; nephews, Sam Altschul, Dodd Motes, and Dick Motes; and nieces, Cinda Motes and Libba Motes Palazola.
There will be a private burial at a later date. Arrangements are by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
