John William McGinty

John W. McGinty Jr., 87, was a resident of Anderson and Roane Counties for the past 45 years. Born on May 16, 1932, he passed away on December 10, 2019 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was predeceased by his parents, John McGinty and Ertis Higgins McGinty of Anniston, Ala., sisters Doris Posey of Atlanta, Ga. and JoEtta McComas of Huntsville, Ala.
Master Sargent McGinty retired from the U S Air Force in 1974 after serving 22 years.
Upon retirement he worked for several Dept. of Energy contractors in Oak Ridge, Fernald, OH and Torrance, CA.
Mr. McGinty is survived by Nancy Pierce McGinty, his wife of 68 years. 4 children: John (wife Karen) McGinty III, Colleen Rodgers, Kelly (husband Shaun) Stine, Alison (husband Ken) Johnson. 8 Grandchildren: John McGinty IV, DeeDee Pelfrey, Erin Gassaway, Amanda (husband Matt) Thomas, Kelley Rodgers, Katie Wehrung, Maggie (husband Jonathan) George, and Emma Johnson. 7 Great Grandchildren: Cole Pelfrey, Carolyn Pelfrey, Cadence Wells, Ariannah McGinty, Laveya McGinty, McKenzie Hughes and Anton Verotnev.
Mr. McGinty was a passionate Republican and worked behind the scenes to further its cause, and contributed generously to Wounded Warriors, The Salvation Army, The USO and Boys Town.
Mr. McGinty's visitation service will be held at funeral home, from 5PM – 7:00 PM with a celebration of life following at 7:00 PM, on Monday December 16, 2019. Officiating will be the Rev. Tony McAfee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to Wounded Warriors.
