John Henry Penning was the son of James T. and Anita (Carder) Penning. He graduated from Sharon High School in Sharon, Massachusetts, in 1938. He enlisted in the Army and achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Per his obituary, he "died over the skies of Austria." It took 5 long years for him to be brought home and laid to rest.
