Doris (Dot) Frances Russell Jackson left her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on Sunday, October 3. Dot was born in Kingsport, TN on May 12, 1938. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1957. She worked for the Department of Transportation in Montgomery, AL for many years before she retired. She enjoyed her work and the friends she made while there. She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church. Before moving back to Kingsport she was a faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL for over 30 years and taught Sunday School during that time. She loved all of God's children as her platform in life was that all children needed to be loved. The children she blessed throughout the years will never forget her kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness and love.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Bonham, second husband, Robert F. Jackson; parents, Ted and Thelma Russell; brothers, Jimmy Russell and Frank Russell; sisters, Betty Blair and Mary Shelton.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Angie Shugart (Roger) of Calera, AL and Cheryl Roberts (Tom) of Princeton, WV; grandson, David Patton of Montgomery, AL; granddaughter Shelby Bennett of Bay Minette, AL; great granddaughter Mila Rose Patton; sisters, Ann Hagy, Carolyn Hammond and Maxine Surgenor, all of Kingsport, TN and Irene Anderson of Smyrna, TN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Rock Springs for the excellent care and love shown to Dot over the past 8 months and a special friend, Bill Robertson. We would also like to thank her sister, Carolyn Hammond, for all she has done for Dot during the past seven years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, October 9, at 10:00AM at Carter Trent Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Dr. David Luster and David Helton. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Tina Horne and Mr. Tommy Shuler. To share memories and condolences with the family please visit www.cartertrent.com
