Jewell Elizabeth Hooks, 83, of Stephenville died on Wednesday, April I,1998, at Community Nursing Home in Stephenville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel in Stephenville with the Rev. Earl Baugh officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Oak Dale Cemetery.
Born on June 3, 1914, in Hye, she first married William Louis Hunt on August 1,1938, in Fort Worth. He preceded her in death.
Her second marriage was to Jess A. Hooks on June 28, 1958 in Granbury. He also preceded her in death in 1984.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Washington Street Baptist Church and had lived in Erath County since 1938.
Survivors included two sons, Wm. Charles Hunt of California and Kenneth W. Hunt of AStephenville; two daughters, Barbara Harris of Forreston and Carolyn Schronk of Dublin; two stepsons, Max Hooks of Stephenville and Joe Hunt of Norfolk, Va.;three step daughters, Connie Reed of Plano, Louise Fellows and Mary McInroe, both of Stephenville; a sister, Mildred Riba of Blanco, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral arraingements are under the direction of Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville.
Jewel enjoyed making many quilts for family and did a lot of canning. We were always amazed at how much okra she could get out of a little patch of dirt next to the house which she canned and put on shelves in a middle bedroom.
