Retired Col. Arthur "Arky" Floyd, 76, of Fayetteville, AR, formerly of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the State Veterans' Home in Fayetteville. Arky was born on June 19, 1945 in El Dorado to the late Asa Floyd and Ruby McKnight Floyd. He was a 1964 graduate of El Dorado High School. He received a total football scholarship from Henderson State University. While in college, he was active in ROTC. After graduating from college, he coached at a middle school near Little Rock and played semi-pro football with the Arkansas Diamonds. In 1970, Arky joined the U.S. Army , where he served 30 years and retired as a full Colonel. While in the Army, he obtained two Master's degrees, one from the military war college, and the other from Webster University. After retirement from the military, he went to work for the Dept. of Defense, and was actually serving in the Pentagon on the day of the 9/11 bombings. Arky was an athlete. He was an avid golfer, loved to bike, ski and hike.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brandon Floyd; five brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Anita Purvis of Rogers, AR; three daughters; twenty grandchildren; one sister and one brother, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Woodlawn Cemetery in El Dorado, with Rev. Randy Tate officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.
