Janet not only had a talent and passion for quilting, she was creative in a variety of areas, whether it was making macramé skeletons, pillowcases, ornaments, doll clothes or spin-worthy dresses for her nieces. She was a good cook and didn't flinch at an intricate birthday cake with Neco wafers for mermaid scales.
Janet loved animals with her most recent roommate being her bird, Murphy and was known to many a furry friend as the "Cookie-lady". She and Bob enjoyed visiting the National Parks, camping trips and sharing stories of all her adventures; including breaking down at Joshua Tree and her love of Custer State Park. She enjoyed fishing with her sister and brothers, quilting trips with family and friends, and even got her kicks at birthday parties consisting solely of a dozen crazy little kids, hyped up on sugar and one desperate mother. She was helpful, compassionate, caring, honest and brave.
To all who knew Janet, her laugh was infectious and usually a bit mischievous (marshmallow fights anyone?). She spent countless hours with family up at the cottage, watching her nieces show her every single shell (that looked like the last) with a big grin on her face. It was her love of family and friends that kept her going. Although she didn't have children of her own, she treated her nieces and nephews as her own kids (11 nieces & nephews and 15 great-nieces & nephews). She attended softball & soccer games, tennis matches, swim & gymnastic meets, she took the kids to the parks, the pool, pumpkin patches and butterfly houses. These are just a tiny fraction of the memories she shared with her loved ones. Janet was a kind, loving and selfless woman who has made our lives that much richer for knowing her.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Bob Sumner, as well as Bob's parents. She also lost her nephew, Daniel Kirk Reitzel, last summer. In addition to her parents, Janet is survived by her 3 younger siblings, Dale (Chris) Stock, June (Dan) Reitzel, and Bill (Renee) Stock. Surviving "kids" include from the Stock family tree: Kristie (Bob) Scoble, Rachel (Terry) Thompson, Ryan Stock, Mikayla Stock and Olivia Stock. From the Sumner family tree: Ginger (Chris) Pacer (Bowerman), Jenny (Casey) McCarthy, Becky (Matt) Terry, Rachael Frankforther and Allison Frankforther.
