She was born in Axson, GA to the late Grandville Cullen Simmons and Shellie White Simmons. She was a seamstress for Rubin Brothers Footwear and Georgia Headwear & Apparel for many years. She was also a member of Wahoma Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Bennett enjoyed cooking for her family and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, G.C. Simmons, Wiley Simmons, and Norman Simmons.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin Bennett of Waycross; two children, David L. Bennett (Lois) of Waycross and Shirley Taylor (Calvin) of Alma; six grandchildren, Gene Taylor (girlfriend April and her daughter, Brantleigh) of Alma, Justin Taylor of Alma, Lindsey Kinnett (Cody) of Fitzgerald, Kelsey White (Caleb) of Axson, Trenton Bennett (Leslie) of Broxton, and Tyler Bennett of Waycross; one great grandson, Conner Taylor of Alma; three sisters, Betty Ruth Gurley (Curtis) of Millwood, Dollie McDowell of Millwood; and Ruby Boyd of Jacksonville, FL; her special dog, Daisy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (October 7, 2021) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Green Cemetery in Millwood. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday evening at Music Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o'clock.
The family requests members of Wahoma Church of God of Prophecy meet at the funeral home by 10:40 a.m. on Thursday to serve as honorary pallbearers.
