Daniel Waldron Davis
New Paltz, New York - Daniel Waldron Davis, Esq. passed from this world September 24, 2021, but his brilliance will resonate with us forever. He leaves behind his beloved Richie and their cherished cats, his adoring parents Bob and Rita, his siblings Brenna, Ben and Luke, the nieces, and nephews he showered with affection, his extended family in the Waldron and Davis Clans, and the network of close friends he always kept near and dear.
Danny entered this world October 15, 1982, in Boise, Idaho. A true cherub, he brightened the lives of all those blessed to know him. A child intelligent to the point of precociousness, his talents shone from an early age. Not only could he recite all U.S. presidents in order of tenure, but he could also tell you the names of their first ladies, Secretaries of State, and an interesting anecdote or two to color the history. Acumen ever apparent, he continued to shine as a young man in debate, Boys State, and as high school president.
A driven student, with his eye always on the horizon, he made his way east to New York where he excelled in BA, MPA, and JD studies at NYU and Cardozo and matured into a respected and dedicated attorney. As a civil servant, he worked to make New York State more ethical and fairer, two attributes he embodied. In a field full of grift and opportunists, Danny shone as a beacon of honesty and good faith.
More importantly, he found the love of his life in Richie in 2006. They supported each other through their respective law schools, enjoyed music and art, and made homes together in Jackson Heights, Queens, and New Paltz, New York. Their 1750 stone house in New Paltz was Danny's pride and joy, and he filled it with history. He was always excited to tell the stories of beauty, whimsy, and intrigue surrounding the antiques he found at markets in upstate New York.
Large in stature but even bigger in heart, Danny was an incredible host and storyteller. He held court on many unforgettable evenings, around tables stocked with fabulous food and free flowing drink, surrounded by the soft warmth of family, friends, and candlelight. Funny as hell and the best listener you'll ever meet, his full and generous laugh still echoes through the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared his company.
The lights that burn brightest burn fastest. While the flame of Danny's life has been extinguished, the afterglow remains. Although himself disposed to hyperbole, it is no exaggeration to leave with this: Danny was the most universally loved person we know, and our lives will be forever touched by his grace.
A Vigil Rosary service at 5 PM on Thursday, October 7th and a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 8th, at 2 PM will be celebrated at Saint John The Evangelist Cathedral, 807 N 8th Street, Boise, Idaho. The burial service will take place on Tuesday, October 12th, 12 PM at Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Road, Boise, Idaho
