JoAnn Hadley Davis, 84, passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Monday Sept. 20, 2021.
She was born the oldest of three sisters on Jan. 27, 1937, in Lonaconing, Maryland, to Bernice Louise and James E. Hadley.
JoAnn attended Valley High School in Lonaconing with the Class of 1955. It was during those high school years that she met the love of her life, preceding her in death, John Michael "Mickey" Davis of Midland, Maryland.
She and Mick were married on July 25, 1959. They wasted no time in growing their family, welcoming their first child the following summer. They had 58 very happy years of marriage.
Together, JoAnn and Mick had 5 children: Michael Timothy (Laurie), Christine Marie, Patricia Lynn (Chris Robie), Kathleen Louise (Frank Berryman) and Joanna Heather (Aaron Barcheski).
JoAnn is survived by nine grandchildren: Christopher Lawyer (Sherry), Jimmy Davis, Charlie Franklin, Casey (Nick Green), Rusty Davis, Kaya (Jerrid Haskin II), Ricky Aguilar, Holly (Carson Kramer) and Ava Romero.
She also has eight great-grandchildren: Paige and Jackson Lawyer, Brenna Franklin, Logan and Landon Green, Jerrid III and Paisley Haskin and Eleanora Kramer.
JoAnn had many hobbies that included painting and writing. She often shared her art with friends and family in the form of hand painted greeting cards, wooden plaques, and even saw blades. Anyone who knew her, knows JoAnn was an avid letter-writer and also kept notes of pretty much everything from birthdays and anniversaries, to what the customer service rep of the electric company said on the phone 15 years ago.
One of her favorite pastimes though was rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, especially when they were playing Mick's favorite team, the Washington Redskins.
JoAnn was quite the social butterfly and made MANY friends through the years. She had been a member of City Council, the Red Hat Society, and continued to stay in touch with her high school graduating class. She and Mick also spent some time on a bowling league. Armed with her 10 pound purse and some clean tissues in her pocket or up her sleeve, she never said 'no' to a little adventure.
JoAnn also gave the best advice for every situation and was a wonderful listener. Some of her most memorable sayings are "Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing" and "Write 'em a letter."
JoAnn will be missed by so many for a long time to come. Those she left behind will be reminded of her in everyday things like lavender, eclairs, loose change on the sidewalk and the smell of Avon perfume or the smoke of a wood burning fireplace. She may be gone, but she's not too far away.
