Wilmington - Elizabeth Labouisse Wright widow of Thomas Henry Wright, Jr. died peacefully on October 1, 2021 after a brief illness.
Elizabeth, also fondly known as Bobo, was born in Charlotte, NC on March 4, 1933 to the late Sally Cameron Labouisse and the late John Witherspoon Labouisse. She graduated from St. Timothy's School, Stevenson, MD. She was also a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, MA.
Elizabeth and her husband were devoted preservationists and helped found the Historic Wilmington Foundation in 1966. Their ongoing interest in preservation and downtown Wilmington lead them to create Chandler's Wharf in 1976 and Elizabeth went on to open the Brass Lantern Gift Shop and The Saucepan, a gourmet cookware store both located in Chandler's Wharf. Together they were the recipient of the Ruth Coltrane Cannon Award for Historic Preservation.
She was a past board member of the Historic Wilmington Foundation, Preservation North Carolina, Historic District Commission, Catherine Kennedy Home, Catherine Kennedy Foundation, Thalian Hall Commission, St. John's Art Gallery, Davis Nursing Home, a trustee of St. Timothy's School and an active member of the Ministering Circle.
Elizabeth was a member of St. James Church and served on the vestry.
She is survived by Margaret Taylor Wright of Wilmington, NC, Thomas Henry Wright, III, (Donna) of Asheville, NC, Elizabeth Wright McMillen (Earl) of Newport, RI, and Eleanor Wright Lindemann (Al) of Charlotte, NC. In addition, Bobo will be sorely missed by her beloved grandsons, Thomas Wright Lindemann, Patrick Gilchrist Lindemann, and Nelson Labouisse Wright McMillen.
Elizabeth was also predeceased by her sisters, Sallie Labouisse Harrison and Isabelle Labouisse Howe and her niece, Frances Howe Smith.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:30am at St. James Episcopal Church, Wilmington, NC. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
