Norris Wayne Garrett, 81, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday, March 16, 2020, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Originally of Buena Vista, Georgia, Mr. Garrett graduated from Marion County High School in 1956. While in high school, Mr. Garrett was voted "Future Farmer of America" and "Best all 'Round". He also served as the 1956 class President, an officer of the HI-Y club as their club reporter, and played for the high school baseball and basketball teams.

Mr. Garrett then pursued a degree in Agricultural Engineering at The University of Georgia. There, Mr. Garrett served as a Reed Hall officer, Reed Hall Council Vice President, and a member of The UGA Beta-Lambda Chapter of Kappa Sigma.

Mr. Garrett left university before he completed his studies to serve his country in The United States Army.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Garrett worked as an Executive businessman for Ford Tractors until his retirement, after which he became a stay-at-home grandparent to his beloved grandson.

Mr. Garrett refused to sit still, however, and began Kinchafoonie South Publishing, LLC, a sole-proprietorship through which he published many works written by himself as well as his friends. His most notable works included, "The Last of The Horse and Buggy Country Doctors", "Squibbles", and "A Walk Around The Square"

Mr. Garrett wholeheartedly supported other authors and artists, and encouraged their works by actively participating in local storytelling events, and supporting The Gulf Coast State College Encore program as a member of the Advisory Board. He also collaborated in community publishings such as "Survivors: Work Created in the Wake of Hurricane Michael" and other works.

Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Guy Garrett and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Garrett; Stepmother Mrs. Pearl Garrett; brothers Warren Guy Garrett and Edwin Lamar Garrett; and his beloved wife, Mrs. Nancy Carol (Murphy) Garrett.

He is survived by his son, Mr. Guy Wayne Garrett (Allison); daughter, Cu Cu; grandson, Nathan Garrett; and extended family spread throughout the Southeastern United States.

Mr. Garrett's ashes were intended to be interred with those of his late wife, Nancy, in accordance with his wishes, however Mr. Garrett's ashes were claimed/retrieved by Cu Cu and the location of his remains are currently unknown.
