The family of Nancy Jean Haas, age 64, regretfully announces her passing following a lengthy illness.

Nancy Jean Haas was born February 18, 1957 in Yoakum, Texas, the third and youngest child of Edward Hamilton Strouhal & Bernice Estelle (Boening) Strouhal. She was a graduate of Yoakum High School. She married David Haas in 1980 in Yoakum, Texas. Their only child, Angela Gayle, was born in 1981. They lived in Yoakum for a short time before moving to Centerville, then Huntsville, finally making their permanent home in Madisonville. While David worked for the state prison system, Nancy fell into the funeral business, working for her sister & brother-in-law at Madisonville Funeral Home. She soon became the face and voice people associated with Madisonville Funeral Home, not only assisting in secretarial duties but nearly all aspects of the funeral business. From cleaning the funeral home to assisting at funerals, Nancy's superior intelligence and ability to multitask enabled the Madisonville Funeral Home business to succeed and grow. Nancy's co-workers often described her as a one-man-show, able to complete nearly any undertaking without fault or error. When health concerns forced Nancy to take an early retirement, she and her family enjoyed traveling, visiting various states like New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina and Missouri. Many of Nancy's last years were spent at home with her daughter and beloved dogs, Jessie, Max and later, Sadie and many yard cats.

As time passed, Nancy's quality of life began to decrease, and she passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 in Bryan, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and numerous aunts, uncles, two nephews and a great nephew. Surviving family members include devoted husband, David Haas of Madisonville; beloved daughter, Angela Haas of Madisonville; sister, Carol Walters (Billy) of Centerville; brother, Edward A. Strouhal of Seguin and uncle, Oswald Strouhal (Dee) of West Columbia. She is also survived by special cousin, Jennifer Maples of Seguin and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. Nancy also leaves behind several co-workers and friends, Sandy Cole, Essie Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Mary Ann Howard, Margie Robinson, Dewayne Bell & Anthony Sterns.

The Haas family would like to thank Nancy's "crazy friend," Monica Nemons at Fairview Healthcare Residence for her friendship and excellent care provided to Nancy during her stay.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Madisonville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Madison County Animal Control; Rufus Refuge and the Madisonville Volunteer Fire Department.
