Dolores Joy Ballard was born February 7, 1936 in Vernon, Texas. As a little girl she moved with her family to California where her father was a master welder building ships for the war effort. Following the war, they returned home to Vernon, then to Electra, Texas. Dolores graduated from Electra High School in 1953. It was at Southside Baptist Church in 1956 where she met her husband, Leroy Allen Smith. Lee was an airman at Sheppard Air Force Base and they were married at First Baptist in Electra on August 17, 1957. They remained lifelong members of Southside.
Their first son, Mark Allen, was born December 2, 1958. Their second son, Scott Wilson, was born March 31, 1966. Mark married Loretta Barrientos in San Antonio on April 30, 1994 and they gave Lee and Dolores two beautiful grandsons, Scott and Michael.
Dolores loved her church family, singing in the choir and playing both the piano and organ for services. A soprano, she joined with Lee and two other couples to produce a record of gospel music. She enjoyed ceramics and silk florals, turning both into small businesses. She adored her kitties.
Dolores was preceded in death by her father, O.W. Ballard, her mother, Eva Mae Ballard, her son, Scott Smith and Lee who passed in 2010.
Funeral Services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 8, 2021 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, with pastor Bobby Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park
