Services For Accident Victim Michael W. Melohn Held
Funeral services were held for accident victim, Michael Melohn 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Melohn of Newell on Tuesday afternoon August 12, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Newell, with the Rev. John P. McGee presiding over the services.
Music was furnished by Diane Crilly, soloist, accompanied by Jennifer White, and the girls trio, Jennifer White, Diane Crilly and Diane Franzmeier, accompanied by Mrs. Betty Broughton. Organist for the services was Mrs. Margaret Rogers.
The committee in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Charles Zemke, Mrs. Ronley Schnell and Mrs. W. L. Hanke.
Attendants were friends, Todd Schnell, Brian Schnell, Dough Beilby, Jeff Bryant, David Goetschius and Todd Frederick.
The services were under the direction of the Farber and Otteman Funeral Hoe with the final resting lace in the Newell Cemetery.
Obituary
Michael William Melohn was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on January 13, 1963. He was the son of Fred and Billie Ann Melohn, of Newell, Iowa. He died in a tractor accident on the evening of August 9, 1980.
Michael is survived by his parents, two brothers, Craig and Bruce, both of Newell. His maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Bartels of Albert City, and paternal grandfather, Luther Melohn of Fonda also survive.
Michael was a loving uncle to Justin and Stacy Lynn, the children of Bruce and Cindy Melohn, and also to Mitchell, the son of Craig and Cori Melohn.
He was a good and wholesome young man. He was President-elect of the Junior Class at Newell-Providence High School. He was active in the band and vocal programs at the school and also served as manager of the football team.
He was confirmed into membership of the First Congregational Church in Newell in September of 1978. He sang in the church choir, was a member of the Youth Fellowship, and was always ready to serve in any way he could.
Hiss loss is deeply felt by his family and friends.
