He graduated with the 21st Class of Naval Reserve Midshipmen and was commissioned as a Naval Ensign in 1944 He served in WWII as an officer on a PT Boat in the Pacific. He was a graduate of Mt St Mary's University in Maryland and of Georgetown Dental School. His professional career included a private dental practice in Springfield PA and Chief of the Dental Service at VA Hospitals in Erie, PA, Omaha NE and Durham NC. He resided in Durham from 1984 to 1997.
He was a wonderful father, an avid golfer, painter, singer and had many friends. He lived with great optimism, gratitude and faith.
His wife, Katherine, predeceased him in 1994 and his sister Jean O'Brien predeceased him in 1999.
He is survived by 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and wife, Pauline, 3 step-children and 3 step-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be scheduled in January 2021 at St Stephen Catholic Church in Sanford NC.
