Born on April 21, 1925 in Brooklawn, NJ he was the son of the late Adam and Edna (Lenke) Goss.
John graduated from the Camden County New Jersey Vocational School in 1943.
He then joined the United States Navy on June 21, 1943, serving during World War II in the American and European Theaters. He served on several ships, including the USS Carroll and received the American Theater Medal, the European Theater Medal and the WW II Victory Medal.
Following the war, he married Carolyn V. Ehlers on Sept. 4, 1955 in New York City. The couple resided for many years in the Queensbury/Lake George region and then lived in South Carolina for several years. She passed away Aug. 30, 2010 following 55 years of marriage.
John owned and operated his own appliance repair business, JC Goss Service in Queensbury for many years until his retirement. Along with his wife, he also owned and operated the Samoset Motel in Queensbury and the Amber Lantern Motel in Lake George for several years.
He was a member of the Queensbury Elks Lodge 81 for many years.
John was an avid golfer and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly fishing at the ocean, camping and along with his wife, spending time with their circle of friends.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one grandson, Christopher Goss; and his many siblings, Ed, Leo, Edna, Rose, Claire, Helen, Joan, and Dorothy.
Survivors include three children, Clifford Goss (Denise Flewelling) of Fort Ann, Susan Kane (Bob) of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Kathy Clothier (John) of Corinth; one sister, Margaret Staszewski of Glendora, NJ; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Tasha, Eric, Adam, Maegan, Tabitha and Brieanne; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Committal Service will be held at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
