Lawrence E. Mayfield a Prineville resident passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at his home in Prineville, Oregon. He was 80 years old. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Prineville Funeral Home. Graveside services to follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery Viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Prineville Funeral Home. Chaplin Vern Arledge will be officiating. Lawrence was born in Camas, Washington on June 14, 1926 to Elvin Elwood & Ellen Mae (Horning) Mayfield. He was educated in Camas, and graduated from Camas High School. He served in the US Army as a patrolman during WWII. He worked at Crown Zellerbach in Camas & served as a city police officer prior to moving to Prineville. He married Ellamae Gabriel in Washougal, Washington on September 19, 1948. They moved to Prineville in 1954 from Washougal. Lawrence owned and operated Ochoco Hardware, in Prineville, for 39 years. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT for 50 years. In 1967 he became one of Oregon's first EMT's. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Oregon Hunters Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and a past member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, volunteer firefighting and loved spending time with his family. Lawrence is survived by his wife Ellamae Mayfield, his daughter; Mary Mayfield and son; Dave and his wife Michelle Mayfield all of Prineville, his brother; Lloyd Mayfield, sister; Mary Harrington both of Vancouver, Washington, grandson; Mike Mayfield of Redmond, Oregon and granddaughter Sarah Mayfield of Albany, Oregon. Numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.Memorial contributions may be made to the Prineville Fire Dept. 500 NE Belknap St. or Pioneer Memorial Hospice 1201 NE Elms St. Prineville, Oregon 97754 Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
