Nina Mae Smith, of Shellman Bluff, passed away October 1st at 4:00 p.m. at the age of 93. Nina was born in Adrian, GA to Lewis Brannan Hutchinson and Hattie Eulee (née Barlow) Hutchinson on December 1, 1927. Her family moved to Shellman Bluff in 1939. She married Philip Bootle Smith and co-owned and operated Kip's Fishing Camp from 1947 to 1972. She was a remarkable wife, mother, and grandmother who did it all with a smile on her face and warmth in her heart. She always had boundless energy and love for her husband, three children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all extended family.
She was an avid sportswoman. She loved to fish and hunt. Her philosophy in life was to always be the best person you can be, always be kind to others, and do more than you're asked without expecting anything in return. She was an avid fisherwoman and was a professional fishing guide for many years and was considered by many as one of the best anglers on the Georgia coast and knew the fishing drops in and around the Sapelo Sound as well as any veteran angler of the area.
Nina was a member of Shellman Bluff Baptist Church since 1951.
Nina was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Philip Bootle Smith; her brothers, E.J., Hobert and Glynn Hutchinson; and her sister Ada Jesweak. She will be missed by her daughter Lota Ina Bryans (Chuck); sons Daniel Philip Smith and Alan Lewis Smith (Kim); grandsons, Clifford Brannon Mason (Tracy), Charles Iverson Bryans, IV (Mai), Philip Eugene Bryans; granddaughters, Amy Elizabeth Damascus (John), Angela Jean Bournazos (Steve), Elizabeth Lee Silva; great-grandsons, Ethan Smith Mason, Daniel Damascus, Aris Bournazos, Brody Lewis Silva, Kai Miles Bryans; great-granddaughters, Alexa Bournazos, Gabrielle Damascus, Eva Damascus, Skyler Silva, Caroline Grace Mason, Mei Olivia Bryans; and sisters, Minnie Lee McDaniel and Buena Hutchinson Pitts. She is also survived by numerous other relatives.
A graveside service will be held at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church cemetery. The service will begin at 10:30 on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.
