RUFUS KING HILL-
Last rites will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon June 18, 1940 at Midway Christian Church for Rufus K. Hill, 86, a retired lumberman, who died Sunday morning June 15. in Bluefield Sanitarium.
He was the son of Aley Hill. He was born December 12, 1854 in Ashe County, N.C.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann Harnell Hill and his second wife Mary Ann Shumate Hill.
He is survived by three sons, Albert, E.C. and J.R. Hill, all of Bluefield and two daughters, Mrs. Vella Mabe and Mrs. Lilly Blackwell, both of McComas. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Shrader of McComas and Mrs. Nannie Taylor of Matoaka; twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The body is at the home of his son J.R. Hill of Graves Street.
The Rev. D.B. Gillespie will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be selected from the Men's Bible Class and flower bearers from the I Will Class of Midway Christian Church.
Mr. Hill was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
Active pallbearers will be J.H. Davidson, H.T. Goforth, Raymond Clark, McKinley Johnston, J.W. Rubble, A.Z. Peters, C. N. Hambrick, and G.L. Lambert.
Flower bearers: Mrs. W. M. Snead, Mrs. G.L. Lambert, Mrs. Floyd Neice, Mrs. Pat Hurt, Mrs. Effie Hager, Mrs. J.H. Davidson, Mrs. H.T. Goforth, Mrs. C.N. Hambrick, Mrs. H.C. Crewes, Mrs. R.E.L. Johnston, Mrs. M.C. Melvin, Mrs. W.C. Criner, Mrs. J. E. Hinkle, Mrs. E.W. Ford, Mrs. W.L. Hedrick, Mrs. Paris Hall and Mrs. Cora Whitt.
