Son of William and Catherine Christensen. He graduated from Ovid Central School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Army the following year. He honorably served as a member of the Army Security Agency during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Ovid VFW Post 6200 and the South Seneca Sportsman Club. He was an employee of the Sampson State Park system for many years, but farming was his passion which he practiced for more than fifty years. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Richard; and brother-in-law, Walter Hausner. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Emma; children, Candace (David) Starling, Cheryl (Doug) Gentile, and Susan (Dale Sowards) Beardslee; grandchildren, Zachary Starling, Jeff Starling, Taylor (Ridge) Cannon, Anna Gentile, Shannon (Davin) Erickson, Danny (Misha) Beardslee, and David (Brooke) Beardslee; great-grandchildren, Ksenia, Isabelle, Davin, Emma Erickson, and Freya Beardslee; brother, Carl (Gail); and sisters-in-law, Susan Christensen and Mary Hausner.
