Son of the late Guy and Bertha Spencer Barnhart. He was an active member of the Faith Bible Church in Williamstown, where he had been a teacher, trustee and deacon. He was a farmer and retired from Union Carbide and Elkem Metals in 1987. He got great joy from mowing, trimming and helping others. He was a World War II Navy veteran, having served from 1943 to 1946 and received the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his two sons, James Guy Barnhart, and Dennis Lee Barnhart; a daughter, Barbara Liegey; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Ann Smith
Barnhart in 1988; a sister, Ruth Barnhart Kester; and his brother,
Dwight Barnhart.
