Obituary for John William Huston from The Fairbury Blade, Friday, August 28, 1925 (corrections in brackets):

William Huston

John William Huston, the son of John W. Huston and Dinah Huston, was born near Braceville, January 31, 1864, and died at his home north of Cropsey, August 19, 1925, at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 19 days.

When he was only nine months old his father died in the Civil war and at the age of six he was taken to the Soldiers' Orphans' Home at Normal. Here he lived for nine years, receiving there his grade school and the first year of high school work at Bloomington. In 1884 he came to Cropsey and worked nearby. On February 28, 1889, he was united in marriage to Bertha Kent and they made their home a mile and a half south of Cropsey, where they lived for ten years, then moving to the farm where he had since resided. To Mr. and Mrs. Huston were born eleven children, six girls and five boys, one [girl, Frances], dying at the age of five weeks.

Mr. Huston was active in the community life. On July 17, 1887, he united with the Methodist church at Cropsey and this church has been the place of worship for the family since that time. For 24 years he served on the school board at Cropsey and the last two years he was on the high school board, this last year being its president. He was also assessor in this district for about 15 years.

He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife, Mrs. Bertha Huston, ten children, Mrs. Julia Gee, William Edward of Champaign, Mrs. Louise Buck, Aletha, Mrs. Lucy E. Cumpston, of Colfax; Arthur, Harold, Bertha, Alfred and Duane. There is also a brother, Thomas Huston, of St. Louis; two half-brothers, Alfred Gleghorn of Morris; and Duane Gleghorn, Casper, Wyo.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Lucy Feeney and Mrs. Anna Martin [Martens], of Waukegan.

The community of Cropsey unites in sorrow and in sympathy; sorrow over the passing of one of its trusted and respected citizens, and sympathy for the family so well and favorably known in our midst.

Funeral services were held at the Cropsey M. E. church Saturday morning, with Rev. R. I. Stone officiating, and interment was made in Cropsey cemetery.
